The clock tower was built in 1878 as a drill hall for the former Sapporo Agricultural College. 시계탑은 1878년에 건설된 구 삿포로 농학교 연무장이다.
At the time when the tower was constructed, the first floor was used as a laboratory and lecture room, the second floor was a drill hall for military training and physical education. 건설된 당시, 1층은 연구실이나 강의실 등으로 사용됐으며, 2층은 연무장으로서 병사 훈련이나 체육 수업으로 사용되거나 중앙 강의실로서 입학식이나 졸업식 등에 사용됐다.
